Decoupling Commandments: 1. The US and China are decoupling. The US and the free world will be defeated and vassalized if we pretend this isn't happening.

Chairman @RepMoolenaar is leading with action. Alongside @SenatorBanks, he introduced the Securing Innovation and Research from Adversaries Act to block taxpayer-funded research from flowing to entities tied to China’s military and intelligence networks. The bill bans federally funded collaborations, including joint research, data sharing, and personnel exchanges, with anyone on U.S. government restricted lists, closing loopholes that have allowed sensitive technology to be exploited. Today, Chairman @RepMoolenaar and @RepDebDingell introduced the Connected Vehicle Security Act. The legislation would prohibit the importation, manufacture, and sale of connected vehicles, software, and hardware linked to China. The Connected Vehicle Security Act builds on the work of two administrations. In 2019, President Trump signed an executive order declaring a national emergency with respect to foreign threats to America's information and communications technology supply chain, establishing the legal authority for the federal government to act. The Biden Administration used that authority to finalize regulations in January 2025 prohibiting connected vehicle software and hardware linked to China and Russia. The Connected Vehicle Security Act expands those protections in statute. More here: chinaselectcommittee.house.gov/media/press-re…

My new piece in @CommonplaceMag, edited by @oren_cass: Apple is now two companies. One in America, where it speaks freely. One in China, where it complies, stays silent, and ships what that Beijing approves. Tim Cook built it that way. It's a key part of his legacy. On September 1, Apple's new CEO John Ternus inherits Tim's trap. Nods to @PatrickMcGee_'s "Apple in China" and @isaacstonefish's CCP exposure index.

"We're all-in on hardcore US manufacturing." @adampbry says after China sanctioned @SkydioHQ and "tried to kill" their company, they built "the most secure drone supply chain in the world, independent from China." "If you roll back 12 years—basically all drones and drone components were made in China. We made a very contrarian bet in 2014 when we started U.S. manufacturing." "A year and a half ago, we had the great honor of being sanctioned by the Chinese government. It was a pretty aggressive action." "They announced the sanctions and then showed up at the suppliers that we still had in China, shut them down, stopped them from doing business with us, and really tried to kill us."
sourcery@sourceryy

.@adampbry says DJI almost acquired @SkydioHQ in 2014, but Skydio turned them down because DJI didn't understand autonomy: "We met their leadership. We visited China, Shenzhen, and ultimately decided not to do it." "The main reason we decided not to was because they didn't really understand the importance of autonomy and how much that was going to change who could use drones and how they could use them."

.@RepBrianMast: If U.S. companies won’t sell out to China, we should expect our closest allies’ companies like Dutch chip equipment manufacturer, ASML, to follow our lead. That’s what true partnership means. We must not hand over the tools China needs to overtake America on AI. @RepBaumgartner’s MATCH Act will ensure that we work with our allies to cut China off from these vital technologies.

Chairman @RepMoolenaar is backing the bipartisan Multilateral Alignment of Technology Controls on Hardware (MATCH) Act to close gaps in semiconductor export controls. China has exploited misalignment with U.S. allies to access critical chipmaking equipment, and this bill ensures those loopholes are shut. Thank you to @RepBaumgartner for his leadership on this legislation. chinaselectcommittee.house.gov/media/press-re…

My bipartisan MATCH Act is about protecting American workers, American innovation, and American security for the long haul. The CCP has made it abundantly clear that it intends to dominate the tech that drives our economy & defense. My bill closes those gaps to ensure they can't get ahead in the AI race. nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news…

If it would take me >10x longer than a pro to fix, requires costly tools I’d rarely use, and/or I might kill myself in process (looking at you, garage door spring!) then yea I’m calling a guy. All other scenarios are a chance to expand knowledge/gain skills/save money.

I cannot comprehend this mindset. There are plenty of areas where I lack mech skill, or places where I call in a pro, but between ChatGPT and Harbor Freight there is no excuse to be un-handy. How could you respect a man who can’t hang a picture or troubleshoot a toilet?
Andrew A.Abbott@realAAAbbott

First thing we skills test for is "can you run a cordless drill". 98% of guys under 35 in fact cannot. They can't run a cordless drill properly, safely. You aren't going to learn to be a plumber or electrician in 2 years because you don't even know enough to change a tire.

This new Chinese AI model was built on PRC-made chips. China will never be addicted to an American tech stack. Selling advanced U.S. chips only helps the PLA catch up. Once China can achieve independence from U.S. chips, it will dump U.S. companies. reuters.com/technology/chi…

“Deindustrialization was not inevitable.  It was a conscious policy choice, a decades-long economic undertaking that stripped our nations of their wealth, of their productive capacity, and of their independence.  And the loss of our supply chain sovereignty was not a function of a prosperous and healthy system of global trade.  It was foolish.  It was a foolish but voluntary transformation of our economy that left us dependent on others for our needs and dangerously vulnerable to crisis.”

Jensen Huang, since you’re not on X, I’ll tag your company @nvidia. You and your paid minions are fighting to sell millions of advanced AI chips to Chinese military companies like Alibaba and Tencent. I’m trying to stop that from happening. Jensen, if you ever feel like debating the actual facts, I’ll meet you anytime, anywhere. I’m sure any @FoxNews show would love to air it tonight! And every so-called MAGA influencer being paid to push this garbage should be embarrassed. You all copied NVIDIA talking points so much that you all made the same spelling error! But worse, you’re siding with a woke DEI company with transgender bathrooms, and by the way, is the biggest financial supporter of Ilhan Omar. Holy cow. It would appear there’s a coordinated campaign against @RepBrianMast’s AI OVERWATCH Act. Whoever is behind this deception campaign is protecting high-end AI chip exports to the Chinese Communist Party. Profits over patriotism.
The Midas Project@TheMidasProj

Something strange happened on conservative Twitter on Thursday. A dozen right-wing influencers suddenly became passionate about semiconductor export policy, posting nearly identical (and often false) attacks over a 27-hour period on a bill most people have never heard of. 🧵
