You nailed it @afric_insde #Eritrean regime pick & choose when it suits โ€˜dual citizenship not allowedโ€™ when it comes to #Ciham Ali US citizen jailed at 15. Dawit Isaak disappeared Swedish citizen. Diaspora athletes welcomed to wear the flag represent as National team. Hypocrisy isnโ€™t policy in #PFDJ itโ€™s the system. #NomorePFDJTerror @TiborPNagyJr @JMichael_Smith @KjetilTronvoll @EvaMariaHall

#Update: US says it has limited ability to assist dual nationals detained in Eritrea. The United States has warned it has limited ability to assist dual nationals detained in Eritrea, citing the Eritrean regimes refusal to recognize dual citizenship, as concerns persist over cases involving U.S.-Eritrean detainees. The U.S. State Department says Eritrean authorities treat individuals holding both U.S. and Eritrean nationality solely as Eritrean citizens, restricting Washingtonโ€™s capacity to provide consular assistance. โ€œDual U.S.-Eritrean citizens are considered Eritrean nationals by the Eritrean regime,โ€ the department states in its travel guidance, adding that this โ€œlimits our ability to provide consular services.โ€ Human rights groups and official records point to several cases involving individuals with U.S. ties detained in Eritrea. Ciham Ali Abdu, a U.S. citizen, was arrested in 2012 at the age of 15 while attempting to leave Eritrea and has been held incommunicado since, according to Amnesty International. Aster Yohannes, who had lived in the United States, was detained at Asmara airport in December 2003 after returning to the country. Her whereabouts remain unknown. Earlier cases include Eritrean employees of the U.S. Embassy, such as Ali Alamin and Kiflom Ghebremichael, arrested on Oct. 11, 2001 and held without charge, according to U.S. government statements. Additional arrests of embassy-linked staff were reported in 2005, including Fitwi Gezae and Biniam Girmay, though details remain limited. Rights groups say detainees in Eritrea are often held without charge or trial, with families denied information about their whereabouts. In the case of Ciham Ali Abdu, Eritrean authorities have rejected her U.S. citizenship status and have not disclosed details of her detention, according to advocacy groups and former officials. The Eritrean regime has not publicly commented on individual detention cases and has historically defended such actions as matters of national sovereignty. Eritrea has long been criticized by international organizations for arbitrary detention practices and restrictions on civil liberties. For dual nationals, the lack of recognition of dual citizenship creates a legal grey area that effectively blocks foreign diplomatic intervention, leaving detainees with little external recourse. The U.S. State Department continues to advise American citizens of Eritrean origin to carefully consider the risks before traveling to the country.

Transnational repression from Eritrea doesnโ€™t stop at its bordersโ€”it follows us into the diaspora. As the #BlueRevolution community, we face intimidation, surveillance, and pressure simply for speaking out. Under the Peopleโ€™s Front for Democracy and Justice, Eritreans at home are denied freedom, while those abroad are targeted for demanding it. This is why #RegimeChangeInEritrea is not optionalโ€”itโ€™s necessary. We will not be silenced. The growing militarization of the Horn of Africa is turning the region into a dangerous flashpoint. Key sites like Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, along with Emirati and Israeli-linked facilities in Somaliland and strategic ports in Eritrea, are increasingly tied to wider geopolitical tensions. If escalation involving Islamic Republic of Iran or Houthis intensifies, these locations could become targetsโ€”putting civilians across the region at serious risk. The Horn of Africa must not become another battleground for global power struggles. Urgent accountability and de-escalation are needed now. #AccountabilityNow #EndRepression #JusticeForEritreans #Eritrea #BlueRevolution #HumanRights #FreeEritrea #NoMorePFDJ #Justice #HornOfAfrica #RegimeChangeInEritrea #TransnationalRepression @UN @UNHumanRights @UNOCHA @UNICEF @FIFAcom @CAF_Online @amnesty @hrw @AP @BBCWorld

The recent success of the Eritrea national football team should be a moment of pride for all Eritreansโ€”but it also exposes a deeper injustice that cannot be ignored, especially in the context of the #BlueRevolution. Under the rule of the totalitarian regime of Isayas Afewerki, football is no longer just a sportโ€”it has become a strategic tool. The regime increasingly relies on diaspora Eritrean playersโ€”young talents who grew up in freer societies, with access to professional training, international exposure, and real opportunities. These players bring success, visibility, and quick results to the national team. But while the spotlight shines on those abroad, thousands of talented players inside Eritrea remain trapped in a system that denies them even the most basic chance to succeed. Indefinite national service, lack of infrastructure, and strict restrictions on movement mean that local players are cut off from scouts, leagues, and global opportunities. Their dreams are not just delayedโ€”they are systematically blocked. This is where the injustice becomes undeniable. A nation that celebrates victories built on the success of its diaspora, while silencing and suppressing its own youth at home, is not developingโ€”it is exploiting. The #BlueRevolution represents a growing awareness among Eritreans, especially the youth, that this system is not sustainable. It calls out exactly this kind of contradiction: a regime that seeks international recognition through success stories, while denying freedom and opportunity to its own people. By depending on diaspora players, the government avoids investing in local talent, avoids reforming its oppressive systems, and avoids accountability. It uses success as a distractionโ€”projecting strength to the outside world while maintaining control and limitation within. But real national pride cannot be built on exclusion. True success would mean creating a system where every Eritreanโ€”whether in Asmara or abroadโ€”has equal opportunity to grow, compete, and succeed. The Blue Revolution challenges this reality. It demands fairness, dignity, and opportunity for all Eritreansโ€”not just those lucky enough to escape the system. Because football, like any dream, should not depend on where you were forced to liveโ€”but on your talent, your hard work, and your freedom. The victories on the field should not silence the voices off it. They should amplify them. #BlueRevolution #Eritrea #JusticeForEritrea #EndIndefiniteService #YouthRights #EqualOpportunity #HumanRights #FreeEritrea #NoMorePFDJ #VoicesOfEritrea @UN @UNHumanRights @UNOCHA @UNICEF @FIFAcom @CAF_Online @amnesty @hrw @AP @BBCWorld

Dawit Isaak, a Swedish national, has been imprisoned in Eritrea for almost 25 years without any formal charges, trial, or contact with his family. He was arrested on 23 September 2001 because of his work as an independent journalist. It is time for Sweden to take concrete and decisive steps in response to the actions of the Eritrean authorities. #RegimeChangeInEritrea #TransnationalRepression #BlueRevolution #Eritrea #NoMorePFDJTerror

Agree 100% @TiborPNagyJr. Itโ€™s impossible to ignore the deep contradictionโ€”openly praising Isaias Afwerki while choosing to live in democratic societies that guarantee the very freedoms denied back home in Eritrea. This isnโ€™t just hypocrisyโ€”itโ€™s part of a broader system of silence and control. The regime doesnโ€™t only repress its people inside Eritrea; it extends its reach globally through transnational repressionโ€”intimidating, monitoring, and attempting to silence Eritreans in the diaspora who dare to speak out. Meanwhile, some abroad amplify propaganda while enjoying free speech on platforms like Xโ€”a freedom Eritreans inside the country donโ€™t even have. Thatโ€™s exactly why the #BlueRevolution matters. It represents a growing movement of Eritreansโ€”both inside and outside the countryโ€”who are rejecting fear, rejecting dictatorship, and demanding accountability, justice, and basic human rights. Itโ€™s about breaking the cycle of intimidation and exposing the truth, no matter where it comes from. You canโ€™t celebrate oppression from a distance while benefiting from freedom up close. The Eritrean people deserve betterโ€”and the world is starting to see through the contradictions. #BlueRevolution #Eritrea #TransnationalRepression #NoMorePFDJTerror #RegimeChangeInEritrea

States invest in sports and athletics as an investment in the future of youth and a project of nation-building. #PFDJ has tirelessly worked to disintegrate and demotivate Eritrean youth, crushed aspiring athletes, and forced them to spend their productive years in trenches and prisons as part of a repressive project. The #PFDJ doesnโ€™t appreciate talent but exploits those who made names by circumventing the unconducive context in Eritrea, whether inside like Bini or diaspora-based. The diaspora group joined the national team, itโ€™s their right to join it though the CONCEPT RIGHT is not known in Eritrea, but for sure the Eritrean national team is NOT their first choice. basically they joined it for their CV. #BlueRevolution #TransnationalRepression #NoMorePFDJTerrorism #Eritrea

States that genuinely invest in sports and athletics are, in reality, investing in the future of their youth and, by extension, in the long-term project of nation-building. Sports are not merely recreational activities; they are platforms for discipline, identity, unity, and international representation. When properly supported, they empower young people, nurture talent, and create opportunities that benefit both individuals and the nation as a whole. In contrast, the PFDJ regime has consistently undermined these very principles. Instead of fostering an environment where young people can grow, excel, and pursue their ambitions, it has worked tirelessly to demoralize and suppress Eritrean youth. Aspiring athletes have seen their dreams crushed, not because of a lack of talent or determination, but because of systemic repression. Many young Eritreans are forced to spend their most productive years not in training grounds or classrooms, but in trenches, military camps, or prisons, as part of a broader system that prioritizes control over development. The regime does not cultivate talentโ€”it exploits it. Those Eritreans who have managed to achieve recognition, whether from within the country under extremely difficult conditions or from the diaspora, have often succeeded despite the system, not because of it. Athletes like Biniam Girmay, for example, have had to navigate and overcome a deeply unconducive environment to reach the international stage. Yet, once they achieve success, the same system that failed to support them attempts to claim their accomplishments for its own image. As for members of the diaspora who choose to join the national team, it is undoubtedly their right to do so. However, the very concept of individual rightsโ€”especially the freedom to chooseโ€”is not something that is meaningfully recognized or practiced within Eritrea itself. While participation in the national team may be framed as patriotism, it is also important to acknowledge that, for many, this is not their first or only choice. In some cases, joining the national team may serve as a strategic move to enhance their careers, gain visibility, or build their professional profiles. Ultimately, the situation reflects a broader contradiction: a state that publicly celebrates national pride and athletic success, while systematically dismantling the very foundations needed for youth development, freedom, and genuine achievement. #BlueRevolution #TransnationalRepression #NoMorePFDJTerrorism #Eritrea

Eritrean national football team's squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers relies heavily on diaspora players who live outside Eritrea and hold second or dual citizenship. Home-based players often defect and seek political asylum abroad during away matchesโ€”a pattern linked to the country's indefinite national/military service policies, with over 60 defections since 2009. Diaspora players are now being actively called up as a โ€œfixโ€ for the team. Nearly the entire home-based national team had previously fled, forcing the federation to turn to foreign-based players. Only a small number of local (home-based) players are selected. Eritrea is playing today Eswatini in Morocco today. G00D LUCK. The full roster below not confirmed

@TiborPNagyJr absolutely right. Itโ€™s easy to praise a system from the comfort of the West, but reality on the ground tells a very different story. If Eritrea were truly the โ€œparadiseโ€ some claim, people wouldnโ€™t be risking everything to leave it. Supporting a regime from afar while enjoying freedoms denied to those back home isnโ€™t just inconsistent itโ€™s deeply unfair. Real solidarity means standing with the people, not defending the conditions theyโ€™re trying to escape. #BlueRevolution #TransnationalRepression #NoMorePFDJTerrorism #Eritrea

I shake my head at Eritrean diaspora which sings the praises of dictator Isaias. If he's so great, why don't they go home to his "paradise" instead of staying in corrupt West? Of course, in Eritrea, they couldn't insult people on X due to no internet. Isn't hypocrisy wonderful?!
