@feefleberry @MichaelLCrick @Wilson34David I have no clue how much my wife earns. I don't ask her for any money. I don't ask her what she does with her money, but I know she's got a boatload in her brokerage accounts, so she's very responsible with it. I pay all the bills. Because it's my responsibility to do so.

In almost any other household, if a man suddenly parked a brand new £125,000 motorhome in the driveway - and acquired other new vehicles - his wife would ask where on earth he got the money from.

@jeshoopes Advertising 89 bucks and having to justify 370 once someone bites sure seems counterproductive. What am I missing?

I had another customer tell me know today because we charge delivery on top of our rental. What people don’t understand is that the $89 I charge doesn’t even cover my labor and gas. It takes two guys and the drop off is 1.5 hrs round trip and the same to pick up. 30 minutes each for set up and take down. So for one guy I pay 4 hrs at an average of $22 an hour is $88 if there’s 2 guys I’m $172. PLUS gas which would’ve been $60. So I’m into it $230 ish dollars not including any wear and tear or overhead. The only way it works is if we have multiple units going out to the same area. She wanted it tomorrow and it would’ve been the only rental. She wanted a 10% discount and the rental would’ve been around $370 total. Some people just aren’t my customers and I’m ok with that.

@oeingoboeing Pep Boys did this to me almost 30 years ago. Went in for new tires after getting brakes and shocks elsewhere. Same story... you need brakes. Really? The ones I just had replaced 2 days ago? I haven't let Manny, Moe, and Jack have access to my wallet since.

I don't like being bullshitted by a place I contracted with to simply replace tires and do an alignment on my 2.5 year old SUV...especially when I was just underneath it yesterday replacing the brakes they say are "worn-beyond-limits." "Oh, you don't say? That's surprising...since I literally just replaced them myself yesterday and the car has less than 50 miles on them." "Oh..." "Yeah...oh." "Well your rear shocks are leaking." "No they are fucking not." I used to know almost everyone that worked at this particular Pep Boys from the manager on down. It used to be a place I could trust to send my wife if she had car issues while I was out of town. Since I was last in, there's apparently been a lot of change.

@BuzzPatterson I was a Jet Engine Mechanic at Charleston at that time. I remember vividly watching the plane land and those college kids coming off the plane, kissing the ground. We had no idea what was happening but everyone was on alert.

MY FIRST TASTE. GRENADA (Part Three) 3) We touched down. The runway was typical Soviet bullshit, but there wasn’t a trench in the middle. We rolled to the end, stayed on the runway, and quickly completed a 180-degree turn, opening the ramp. Within five minutes, our soldiers had completely offloaded, hitting the ground with weapons drawn, and firing. It was spectacular, just like the movies. We quickly closed the ramp, powered up, and took off in the opposite direction away from the threats. As we climbed out, avoided incoming traffic, and evaluated our current status, the crew took a collective sigh over the intercom. It was palpable. We didn’t have the necessary fuel to make it back to the US, so we coordinated with our command structure to divert to Roosevelt Roads Naval Air Station, Puerto Rico, to refuel and collect our thoughts. We’d done it. I was fortunate enough to fly twice more into Grenada over the next few days. It became much more serene; the American medical students were rescued without injuries and repatriated to the US, and the Cuban forces on the island were killed or captured. The Marxist junta was replaced by a moderate government that was secured by a multinational Caribbean security force. The Soviets’ efforts to place their fighter base off the US had been stymied by Reagan. Equally important, our military’s chaotic but successful lightning operation ignited a renewed vigor among our military men and women to accelerate the new Reagan-era reform that was restoring morale, purpose, and capability. I was so proud he was my commander-in-chief. It was my first foray into defending my nation; it wouldn’t be the last. I was a rookie…but now I was seasoned and ready for more.

MY FIRST TASTE. GRENADA. (A thread) 1) After my year at Air Force pilot training in Columbus, Mississippi, I was assigned to fly C-141s at Charleston AFB, SC. I was young, single, a brand new pilot, and the 141 was my first choice coming out of training. I was stoked. I wanted to see the world and my dad was an airlifter and special operator. I wanted to follow his steps. On October 25, 1983, after only two operational missions as a copilot, I was called at home, called to the base, put into an alert status to wait for a call. Something “real world” was happening. The Marine Barracks had just been bombed by Hezbollah in Beirut, killing 241 Americans and 222 US Marines. I assumed we were heading over to bring them home. I was wrong. Very shortly thereafter, I was on my way to Pope AFB, NC, to fly the 82nd Airborne to the invasion of Grenada. President Ronald Reagan had ordered this swift military intervention because the Soviet Union was building a MIG base within striking distance of Florida. Also, a violent Cuban-Soviet-backed coup on the Caribbean island threatened a group of American college students who were trapped at the St. George Medical School. I was stoked and ready to go! We departed Charleston and arrived at Pope AFB early in the night. Our briefing from the intelligence officer at Pope consisted primarily of our receiving a photocopied tourist map of the island. Our briefers confessed, “We don’t know the runway length at the Point Salines airfield where you will be landing and unloading the troops. The runway heading is 1-0-0. It’s under construction by the Soviets. There may or may not be trenches dug into the runway. We really have no idea what resistance you’ll find. Go for it.” That was the intelligence briefing: Here are some guns; there are your soldiers; there’s your jet; go. Here’s me on that first flight to Grenada (Continued…)

I've been doing this work a long time but nothing prepared me for what I saw on a recent reporting trip in Somalia. I was there to look into rising food and fuel prices from the war in the Middle East landing atop dramatic cuts to the international humanitarian relief system.

I got an email from a company earlier today (rejection of course). And just as a joke (cuz I didn't figure anyone would monitor the email), I responded something like, "yeah you don't want an old guy with a quarter century of software engineering experience!" Within like 5 minutes, I got an email back saying that they are not allowed to consider my age, my rejection was because the [system] (they didn't say whether it was ATS or AI) stated that I was basically an intern level candidate. (keep in mind, the last 13 years of my career has been me working for myself and running business)!

Cleaning out my mother's things today and I hit the jackpot—a whole cache of what I can only assume are the tiniest spoons in existence. I've spent the last hour trying to figure out their purpose, and I'm genuinely baffled. 🤔

People say wait until 70 for max Social Security. Wrong. Claim at 62, invest it, and you'll have $220K+ in liquid capital by 70, while the "wait" crowd has collected $0.

@Deborah50677821 @LessCrime Yes police are trained to disarm suspects with knives and it doesnt include kicks to the head. After a person has been tasered they are incapable for a short time and disorientated so that compliance with shouted instructions is impossible.

Apparently today is the day that a lot of people are learning that the law absolutely allows police officers (and, indeed, members of the public) to kick people in the head when faced with a potentially lethal threat such as a person actively stabbing people.

Judge destroys sheriff in court room and sends him to jail. 🔥 Special Judge Larry Medlock finally reached his breaking point with Indiana Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel. In a courtroom showdown that has now gone viral, Medlock didn’t just deliver a sentence; he delivered a reality check. Noel, who once portrayed himself as a "tough on crime" leader on the show 60 Days In, learned the hard way that he is not above the law he once swore to uphold. Why was he in court? While awaiting his massive corruption trial, Noel was out on bond under strict conditions—one of which was to surrender all firearms. However, a search of his home revealed he had kept two handguns in his possession. This direct defiance led to his contempt of court hearing The Sentences For Contempt: Judge Medlock, visibly fed up with Noel's "deception" and "defiance," immediately sentenced him to 60 days in jail. The Final Trial: This was only the beginning. Noel eventually pleaded guilty to 27 felony charges, including theft, tax evasion, and money laundering. He was sentenced to 15 years total (with 12 to be served in prison). From luxury cars and private planes to over $3 million in restitution, the "Noel Dynasty" has officially collapsed. If ever you want to see a judge imitate the movies with being visible angry with the person on trial, this is it.
