No Police Response after 911 Call ... then Someone was Shot Dead ... called the police, knowing a problem was imminent. Twenty minutes later, shots were fired ... Malik McCorkle (30) was shot and killed during a fight outside King of Cups bar in the 2200 block of Lincoln Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Sunday. Police say a fight broke out outside the bar, then an unknown suspect pulled out a gun and shot the 30-year-old man multiple times in the body. Marc Kramer who lives nearby was coming home when he saw large crowds outside a nightclub near Belden and Lincoln avenues. He called the police, knowing a problem was imminent. Twenty minutes later, shots were fired. "There were people on the street, in the middle of the street drunk, there was a crowd gathering," Kramer said. "I called the police and it's been a regular occurrence around here." Neighbors are getting fed up as this is the second shooting in this area the past few months. In June, a 39-year-old woman was also shot just down the street on Belden. Alderman Timmy Knudsen said there would be additional patrols in the area after that shooting. "The alderman is aware of it; police are aware of it and it's just gotten worse," Kramer said. "At this point, I think some action needs to be taken," said John Lowe, who lives nearby. "I think our alderperson needs to start looking at pulling some liquor licenses." Lowe has lived in the area for 30 years. He said some problem bars should have their licenses revoked, given the danger they're bringing to the neighborhood. #ChicagoScanner #CrimeNews #Homicide

30-year-old man shot, killed during fight near Lincoln Park bar area The shooting comes one month after a similar one took place blocks away as a group was leaving a popular Lincoln Park bar. By Francie Swidler NBC Chicago Published 4 hours ago Updated 19 minutes ago The shooting, near Lincoln and Webster, left a 30-year-old man killed, Chicago police said. A man was shot and killed late Sunday night near a popular bar area of Chicago's Lincoln Park, with police still on the scene early Monday morning collecting evidence and one person in custody. According to police, the shooting unfolded about 11:43 p.m. in the 2200 block of North Lincoln Avenue near the intersection of Lincoln and Webster. Last month, a shooting that stemmed from a fight took place less than a block away, at Lincoln and Belden Avenues as a group was leaving a nearby bar. Sunday night's shooting also stemmed from a fight, police said, after someone took out a gun during a physical altercation. That person then fired multiple shots at a 30-year-old man, who was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The man was later pronounced dead, police said. Photos and video from the scene showed lines of police tape covering streets and blocking off roads, bars and restaurants near Lincoln and Webster. More than 20 evidence markers — typically placed near shell casings — could be seen. A gun was recovered, police said. One person was in custody, and charges were pending. #ChicagoScanner #CrimeNews #Shooting

@Chicago_Police @BlockClubCHI @NewDayConway @ABC7Chicago @Suntimes @nbcchicago Cool. Knife fights in the streets. At 15 seconds in the first video, the guy in the white shirt is inches from having his throat slashed as the guy in yellow falls backward. Heard shots, looked over and saw this in the jewel parking lot at 370 n Des Plaines. What great neighbors for $8k/month for a 3 bed 3 bath in one of the nicer buildings in our most up and coming neighborhood! Not to mention the homeless encampments all around us or getting accosted twice at the kids park today across the street with my infant. Looks like these guys weren’t possibly drawn to the neighborhood (Colombian jerseys) by the Wild West going on at Recess…

NEW: A Delta plane was hit by a firework as it was landing at Chicago’s Midway Airport last night. The pilot told the tower - “We just had a firework hit our plane. We’re hoping it was just a mortar and went off underneath, but definitely felt a big bang.” The tower was warning other approaching aircraft that the area was like a “war zone” and to be aware of fireworks going off in the area. The Delta flight landed safely. No injuries were reported in the incident. Chicago police said the aircraft had minor paint damage.

You can just look at the tail number. He’s right: Roughly 90-110 hours in the air and 10-40 hours on the ground (mostly turnaround/ground time) over the ~5-day (Jun 10–15) window shown, meaning the plane was airborne ~75-90% of the time. flightaware.com google.com This is a high-utilization long-haul aircraft (Boeing 777 or similar, tail N77019) on United’s transpacific/transatlantic routes. “This window” appears to cover the visible history from Jun 10 to Jun 15 (~120 hours total). The plane completed ~9 flights with very short ground times between many of them. Estimated Flight (Air) Times I used the screenshot’s exact 14:12 for the top flight and typical block times (gate-to-gate, including taxi) for the rest from reliable sources: • Jun 15: SFO → HKG (UAL3938): 14h 12m (exact from screenshot). flightaware.com • Jun 15: AKL → SFO (UAL916): ~12h. • Jun 13: SFO → AKL (UAL917): ~13–13.5h. • Jun 13: LHR → SFO (UAL949): ~11h. • Jun 12: IAD → LHR (UAL924): ~7.5h. • Jun 12: CDG → IAD (UAL914): ~8h. • Jun 11: SFO → CDG (UAL990): ~11h. • Jun 11: HND → SFO (UAL876): ~9.5–10h. • Jun 10: EWR → HND/Tokyo (UAL131): ~14h. Total estimated air time: ~100–105 hours (midpoint ~101–102h). Actuals could vary ±1–2h per flight due to winds, routing, or delays. google.com Ground Time Estimation • Total window: ~5 days (Jun 10–15) = 120 hours. • Ground time: ~15–30 hours total (average ~2–4h per turnaround for international long-haul; some shorter domestic-style turns possible, some longer for maintenance/cleaning). • Many flights are back-to-back with tight turns (e.g., arrive one day, depart the next morning or same afternoon). • The screenshot shows the plane active almost daily, which is efficient for revenue generation. • This leaves the plane airborne for ~80–85% of the window in a typical high-utilization scenario. Real-world long-haul 777s often target 12–16 block hours/day when scheduled this way.

@girdley If you're getting those figures from the Flightaware screen, there's a flaw in the logic. You're seeing the same daily route, not the actual aircraft.

A fact that still blows my mind: This Boeing 777 spends about 20 hours a day in the air. And only about 4 hours on the ground each day. ~80% of its life is spent above 30k feet.

@Will60657 @WestLoopTom @bbculp And all of them are garbage, no one goes to any of them except maybe the Italian one. And also, five bars and four restaurants *is* nothing when you look at how massive this intersection is. There's a blue line stop and three bus lines, it should have much much more going on

@WestLoopTom @bbculp It's mainly because there's nothing to do at that intersection so there's not enough foot traffic. Similar six-ways in more interesting neighborhoods do have significant safety issues

The tax credit pause is the visible lever. The real constraint is power. PJM's interconnection queue has years of backlog, and a single hyperscale campus draws 200-500MW. Illinois may be the first state to blink publicly, but the binding limit isn't political will, it's grid capacity that no tax credit was ever going to solve.
