Salah slow in pace, slow in the decision, and a heavy touch led to a dreadful effort all around, and he knows it.

@brilliantboyb @ScottBarrettDFB I'm not sure why it correlates but I think the hit rate for guys with 20% tackle breaking rate is pretty high, maybe it's spacial awareness, change of direction or strength or a combo of all

@benlangford @ScottBarrettDFB That makes sense, but at such low frequency (1/20), would what they do after the tackle break (their YAC skills) be more predictive of success no matter what route was run?

2026 WR Class by Missed Tackles Forced per Reception + Zachariah Branch is not the "MTF machine" they told me he was, instead looks like just another screen merchant fraud + Jordyn Tyson not beating the allegations + Bunch of other projected top-75 picks in the death knell range

@ScottBarrettDFB @benlangford So on 10 of these plays, there are on average about 1 more missed tackles from the screen than from not. Seems like that doesn't matter that much? What am I missing?

@ScottBarrettDFB Because defenders have to avoid blocks and take bad angles or get partly blocked I guess? Or WR has more time to look upfield after the catch maybe

@benlangford It's much easier to force missed tackles on screens Last 5 Years on screens: 0.26 no screens: 0.17

Salah’s age shows up at all the wrong times. Every touch, pass, and shot in tight spaces are a half step off and it throws everything off. He needs to go this summer.

Ian Rapoport is expected to work alongside Adam Schefter when NFL Network officially becomes an ESPN entity in May, per @FOS (frontofficesports.com/rival-insiders…). ESPN will soon be able to control the NFL news transaction market when these two join forces.

@spotrac They're trying to claim they wanted both Hendrickson and Crosby - could they have afforded that? Feels like BS

PSA: The Ravens will not be penalized for a trade they didn’t complete during a period in which it couldn’t completed. That doesn’t mean there won’t be ethical/relationship ramifications, but the league has no reason to interject here.

Alright, let's try and sort this mess in one post. I think the most likely thing is that there is truth that 1) Baltimore was concerned the medical scans etc were worse than the Raiders either think or were letting on. But ALSO 2) that they probably only back out with Hendrickson available. Both parts of that seem reasonable on all sides tbh. Schefter reports they also consulted with the Cowboys doctor, which may explain Dallas not re-engaging. So the totality of the evidence does NOT suggest they were nefarious and only pulled out cos they got buyer's remorse. But equally, I doubt they bail on it without Hendrickson available to pivot to. Honestly just seems like an unfortunate situation all around that is going to happen every now and then with subjective medical evals. But feel free to condemn whoever we believe is 100% to blame for all of this based off incomplete info.

So curious to see if this has a noticeable negative impact on Ravens ability to work with other teams. Optics on this are so rough

VAR checks should be capped at 90 seconds. If it’s not *clear and obvious* in that time then it’s not clear and obvious. Anything else is just ridiculous. And now we have someone whose nose is offside? What are we even doing? Just get in the sea.

@spotrac Thats super interesting, if a team offered a 2 year 80 deal and colts wanted to offer 3 years for 110, Jones can't take the colts offer I take it, colts couldn't even offer that as a counter? If the colts match the offer, does Jones get a choice or do colts automatically get him?

@benlangford It's possible. The Colts would need to match the precise structure of the offer sheet.

QB Daniel Jones' $37.833M transition tag comes with a bit of risk, but for now, it acts as a placeholder deal to keep him off of the open market, while also securing their QB1 as they work to finalize a long-term extension with WR Alec Pierce.

@spotrac Would it be possible for a team to front load a deal so much that indy couldn't match it? Wonder how the matching works in general, is it total contract, guarantees or max per year?

Daniel Jones' transition tag allows him to negotiate contracts with other teams (beginning next Monday). If he signs an offer sheet elsewhere, the Colts will have 5 days to match it, or risk losing him for no compensation. Indy must feel confident in their ability to match whatever may come (if anything).

Even in the context of 'there aren't many awesome plays for 4th and 11', after calling a timeout that basically sacrificed a second chance at this all for this one play... this is the play you drew up?

Brandon Aiyuk earned $24.1M in 2024 for 7 weeks of work, and is guaranteed $24M through 2025. The #49ers voided the $26.15M guarantee on his 2026 salary in order to facilitate his release, per @DMRussini & @MikeSilver. The deal contains $29.5M of bonus dead cap in 2026.

@NFLDraftSi Scouts also will be using data to know who to scout and probably quantify how they differentiate between talents, so he'll have been using their data unknowingly

What Tony is describing here is literally data-driven recruitment. The only difference is he did it himself in a more abstract way, choosing to be the one that validated the data with his own eyes. You don't always need to turn something into a number for it to be data.
EuroFoot@eurofootcom

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🗣️ Tony Pulis: "I am going to sound like a dinosaur again here, but I signed hundreds of players during more than three decades as a manager, and not one of those signings was data driven - unless you count the database that existed in my own head." "That database was based on my own information I gathered each week, watching live league, reserve and non-league games, and making contacts with different scouts and managers from every level." "In those days, being at training at 8am each morning and getting home past midnight was expected, and most managers then did the same." "We had a network of scouts in different parts of the country but we still did a lot of travelling to speak to people about players they had seen, young and old." "If a player was recommended to me, I would always try to follow it up by watching him at least three times, with two of those occasions being away from home because I always believed that if he was a good character, that aspect would shine more in away games." "In those pre-internet days, the Rothmans Football Yearbook was my bible, and it was priceless for identifying information on players from every team in the league." "I started out as a player-coach at Bournemouth under Harry Redknapp and he showed me the value of having that knowledge." (@BBCSport)
