As chair of the @senatecommerce subcommittee overseeing the Coast Guard, I’ve been leading the effort to close our nation’s icebreaking gap with our adversaries. With the Working Families Tax Cuts Act and the ICE Pact with Finland, we secured the funding to build and homeport these icebreakers. The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation on Tuesday unanimously advanced the Mental Health in Aviation Act. The bipartisan bill would require the FAA to update policies related to pilot disclosures and medical certification. vist.ly/4ygd2

We owe it to the American people to pass an aviation safety package that will prevent accidents before they happen. Tonight’s passage of the ALERT Act is an important step forward, and I will keep pushing to ensure an ADS-B In requirement is included in the final package.

The Senate was unanimous. The House passed the ALERT Act. Now comes the hard part – reconciling one bill that must improve safety.
