Indeed, Iran has an organized opposition led by MEK, with brave Resistance Units inside the country, unlike any other opposition force, fully capable of ending the tyranny in Iran. The MEK attack on one of the most secure locations in Tehran just one week before the war showed their strength, intelligence, and bravery! WSJ says: “Arm the Iranian Resistance.” A worthy sentiment—only about 23 years too late. The resistance they now suggest arming already existed. The MEK’s National Liberation Army was not a symbolic force; it was a division-strength mechanized army that in July 1988 advanced to the gates of Kermanshah, the largest city in western Iran, destroying 50,000 IRGC in four days, according to regime's own admission. But in 2003, at the height of its strength, Washington chose appeasement over principle. To placate Tehran, the Iranian patriots were disarmed. The weapons were then handed over to Iraq’s puppet regime—which promptly allowed them to drift into the arsenals of Tehran-aligned militias, including the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). In other words, the West did not merely fail to support the Iranian resistance; it helped disarm it—only to see those same weapons strengthen forces loyal to the very regime it claimed to oppose. History has a dark sense of irony. One cannot help but wonder: what might Iran, and the region, look like today had Washington not disarmed the one organized force already fighting the regime?
