So, what is it about #Guatemalan women who seem to be the only conservatives willing to take on the Deep Guatemalan state? I have received a lot of private messages in support of @Sandra_JovelP, who stands firm against death threats and intimidation for being a true ally to U.S. interests and the Trump Administration. This reminds me of my 2022 interview with Attorney General Consuelo Porras—still sanctioned by the US (designation active since 2021), still in office (term ends May 2026), still extraditing criminals to the US, and still a target for pushing back against foreign interference and corruption. By the way, I have asked many stakeholders in Washington, DC, about the Biden-era sanctions on @Mconsueloporras, and one fesses up. Some Republican policymakers run like scalded dogs from this issue, and staff in Congress, too. Why is that? Patterns like CICIG's sovereignty-damaging experiment and politicized sanctions keep repeating when leaders refuse to align with global NGOs/establishment pressure. #Guatemala rarely makes the news in the United States—but it should when pro-American Guatemalan leaders are threatened for challenging entrenched power. Sandra Jovel @Sandra_JovelP has been receiving death threats and is being pressured because the ruling party knows she is seen by DC as a true ally of the Trump Administration. We have seen this pattern before across Central America. When politicians refuse to align with the global NGO and political establishment, intimidation often follows. For example, Guatemalans remember when the country was pressured into accepting the International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG). #CICIG was an experiment in globalism driven by American politicians (R & D), foreign lawyers, and international NGOs under the banner of anti-corruption. Many experts now recognize that experience as deeply controversial and damaging to Guatemala’s sovereignty. The good news is that conservatives control the Constitutional Court, yet threats against elected officials must be taken seriously. Congress and the Trump Administration should pay close attention when intimidation is used against conservative voices in Guatemala. There needs to be a reckoning of all these “national security” organizations and clearly many of the people involved. The blatant disregard for the law, the attacks on good people, to include @POTUS and many, many others because they stood for the truth, are reprehensible and we, as Americans, should not tolerate anyone involved. Everyone who condemns Porras because @StateDept sanctioned her and people interested in knowing about the Department's crimes regarding Guatemala should read Senator Mike Lee's letter to Antony Blinken about sanctions in general and Porras specifically. "More directly, again without providing any evidence, the {State] Department has waged incessant attacks against the current attorney general Consuelo Porras, a stalwart US ally in the war on drugs and human trafficking, as congressional representatives Buck, Crawford and Salazar duly noted in their letter to you dated June 30, 2022."
