📍 MCP is not a technical integration standard. It is the control layer for how AI agents execute decisions across organizations. As McKinsey highlights, the Model Context Protocol (MCP) standardizes how large language models connect with tools, APIs, and transactional platforms to complete real-world tasks. Most executives see this as interoperability infrastructure. The larger shift is organizational authority moving into orchestration layers. 1️⃣ Control Point: MCP creates a standardized translation layer between intent and execution. The organization that controls orchestration increasingly controls workflow outcomes, escalation logic, and transactional sequencing. 2️⃣ Structural Shift: Traditional software architectures separated interfaces, applications, and execution systems. Agentic environments compress these layers into continuous decision systems operating across platforms in real time. 3️⃣ Governance Gap: Most enterprises still govern AI at the model level. But when orchestration systems autonomously coordinate APIs, payments, logistics, and customer actions, governance must move toward workflow-level accountability.
