One year ago today. 🇨🇩 President Félix Tshisekedi invited me to preach before the Palais du Peuple in the Democratic Republic of Congo and to spend personal time with him at his residence. Among other things, we talked about faith, how he dedicated the nation to God in 2019, and the prayers rising in America and Africa for peace, prosperity, and for a move of the Holy Spirit across every square inch of the DRC. God is moving in Africa. The harvest is ripe. Would you join me in praying for Congo?

Message from @VictoireUmuhoza : Tell people this: I am a Christian, and I believe in God. I know that when a person dies, life is not ended it is transformed. I also know that God has a plan. The day and date on which it is written that I, Ingabire, will die, whatever is destined to take my life is what will do so. No human being determines what will take another person’s life. Therefore, if I am to be killed because of the struggle for democracy that I have consistently spoken about, I will die with pride. I will be proud that I did something for my country. Rather than remain silent while Rwandans die of hunger, are subjected to #abuse, or are #killed before my eyes, I would rather lose my own life while speaking out against that injustice. #freeVictoireIngabireUmuhoza @hrw @amnesty @HarianaVeras @POTUS @realDonaldTrump @RevColeman @FDU_Inkingi @JF_LE_DRIAN @US_SrAdvisorAF @EmmanuelMacron @duboiris @Rwanda_Justice @NKasinge @UNHumanRights @UN_Women @UN @JudiRever @RWALINDAP @TheoMpoze @xtr_africa @veritasinf .

The @UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) concluded that the detention of @VictoireUmuhoza is arbitrary and contrary to international law. The Working Group called for her immediate release . The @RwandaGov political opponents and critics. Rwanda needs an independent judiciary, respect for diverse political opinions, and a society where citizens can express their views freely without fear of intimidation or persecution. True democracy is built on freedom, the rule of law, and respect for fundamental rights. However, that President @PaulKagame has built his political system on authoritarian rule rather than democratic principles. @hrw @UNHumanRights @UN_Women @EUCouncil @IHRF_English @Rwanda_Justice @US_SrAdvisorAF @UrugwiroVillage @HarianaVeras @batten_von @michelawrong @JF_LE_DRIAN @LydiaMutyebele @jumuiya .

@HRF This is wonderful outcome. Txs for remaining faithful to your mission of defending victims of human rights violations anywhere, whoever. The tragedy is that UN does more talking/writing, condemning without taking action.@UN_HRC

The three organizations and other members of Ingabire’s international legal team welcome the WGAD’s decision. It is time for the international community to take meaningful and coordinated action and demand the Rwandan regime immediately release Ingabire.

@HRF @LantosFndn @freedomnoworg It is time to immediately and unconditionally release Victoire Ingabire, respect the rule of law, and uphold #Rwanda's international human rights obligations.

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has spoken clearly: the repeated detention of @VictoireUmuhoza is arbitrary and violates international human rights law, including her right to a fair trial. I commend @HRF, @LantosFndn, and @freedomnoworg for their tireless efforts to to defend human rights. @PaulKagame must understand that peaceful opposition is not a crime. Detaining political opponents who advocate for democracy only exposes the regime's fear of free competition and accountability. It is time to immediately and unconditionally release Victoire Ingabire, respect the rule of law, and uphold Rwanda's international human rights obligations. #FreeVictoireIngabire #Rwanda #HumanRights #Africa

The WGAD found Rwanda’s repeated detention of Ingabire to be arbitrary and in violation of international human rights law, which includes her right to a fair trial. A tireless opposition figure, for years, Ingabire has been subjected to heavy repression at the hands of Paul Kagame’s regime. She is still imprisoned, unable to reunite with her children, awaiting what will be an unfair trial in a court subservient to the regime.

The #DRC’s decision to bring a case against #Rwanda before the International Court of Justice is a significant step toward accountability through international law. For too long, millions of civilians in eastern DRC have endured killings, sexual violence, forced displacement, and the devastating consequences of decades of the Rwandan aggression. Justice cannot erase that suffering, but it can help establish the truth, clarify state responsibility, and reaffirm that no country is above international law. Justice and the end of impunity are the foundation of a lasting peace. The ICJ proceedings represent an opportunity for legal scrutiny; not only in the interests of the Congolese people, but also for the credibility of the international rules-based order.

These families have every reason to fear the return of their ageing parents to Rwanda. If the UN cannot find ways of processing those tried by an international court - and in several cases actually acquitted by said court - the entire system of universal justice breaks down. 2/2

Anyone interested in universal justice should be alarmed by this case. The recent unexplained death of Rwandan dissident Aimable Karasira makes clear that Rwandan prisons are not safe, trial after trial highlight the politicised nature of Rwandan justice. 1/2

Appeal to members of the UN Security Council to oppose the Rwanda's plea to take custody of the detainees of the former ICTR tribunal, now IRMCT and related archives ahead of the Security Council Meeting slated for June 25th. @volker_turk,@unirmct, @hrw, @hrwdispatches, @KenRoth, @APStamm, @batten_von, @AnnGarrison, @JudiRever, @michelawrong, @Malbrunot, @laraseligman, @USCongress, @USUN, @UN, @SecRubio, @JF_LE_DRIAN, @ida_sawyer, @_AfricanUnion, @xtr_africa, @AsstSecStateAF, @africaupdates, @CohenOnAfrica, @PatrickMuyaya, @Muyumba, @SkyNews, @guardian, @Telegraph, @VictoireUmuhoza, @LaureUwase, @veritasinf, @ikondera, @RwandaDemocrati, @RwandansRights, @ReneCMugenzi, @Sergiondayi, @RwandaDemocracy, @JLHaby, @TheoMpoze, @RGakwerere, @dzaneza, @SGahamanyi, @RevColeman, @Patriote257, @NtareHouse, @GitifuW, @ckanimba, @OlindPaul, @cobbo3 Please stand up and raise voices with us to appeal and urge members of the UN Security Council to nullify the plea to keep the former ICTR tribunal archives and take custody of all persons convicted, acquitted or released by the ICTR, including those cleared of all charges. Because it simply violates international laws and it puts the UN Security System in an awkward position where the eventually System proves to be working against its own resolutions. As families of the detainees and acquitted persons, the Stand For Our Parents Movement is committed to raising our voices with an aim to mobilize you all Rwandans, friends of Rwanda and many other supporters around the world so that together we send a strong appeal message to the members of the UN Security Council and urge them to categorically reject the plea by the Government of Rwanda to take the detainees of the former ICTR tribunal and together with all related judiciary archives. In virtue of established international laws, failing to do so the UN Security Council proves to be liable of infringing the very rules by which it claims to remain relevant as a highly reputable UN institution. Therefore, we formally oppose their transfer (deportation) to Rwanda for the following underlying motives: Granting Rwanda the right and privileges to take them would not only be a blatant violation of the principles of international laws but most importantly it would send a signal that the UN Security Council is disavowing its own Resolution 2740 (2024) and the IRMCT own directive of May 07, 2025. As a matter of fact, numerous credit worthy Human Rights Organizations have in recent years pointed out grave concerns about the persistent state of blunt violation of human rights in Rwanda including enforced disappearance, extrajudicial arrests and incarcerations and violation of fundamental human freedoms. Amnesty International (2024) and the Human Rights Watch (2025). It is in this context that we strongly object for the transfer of our people to Rwanda merely because there are well-founded fears their transfer to Rwanda would be a violation of the principles of non-refoulement, the principle of informed consent and the "Non bis in dem" principle which prohibits to try or punish a person twice for the same acts, also popularly known as the double jeopardy situation. Else, suffices it to recall that Rwanda remains one of the parts to the still non resolved conflict. Therefore, this disqualifies the country as a neutral part that can be entrusted with the current judiciary cases of the detainees once the UN IRMCT mechanism is over. Besides, in regard of the reality of the flawed justice system prevailing in Rwanda, Stand For Our Parents (SFOP) Movement defends that Rwanda currently does not fulfill the required conditions to be granted this right. There are justified fears that the detainees would be exposed to inhuman treatment and degrading life conditions consistent with available reports produced by numerous reputable human rights organizations. Consequently, we urge members of the UN Security Council to nullify any proceedings whatsoever aimed at granting Rwanda the right to host both the IRMCT detainees and judiciary archives. Please stand up with us and help us raise the awareness about the plight of the IRMCT detainees and advocate for the improvement of their current living conditions as the relevant UN bodies statute for their ultimate fate going forward. Please RE-TWEET to as many friends and supporters as possible.
