“Breaking this [cycle of impunity] requires not only stronger legal frameworks, but also sustained support for the actors who make accountability possible,” highlighted @FaeeBB, SIHA Network Regional Programme Manager, during our intervention at the #CSW70 Interactive Expert Panel. At this session and alongside the oral statement we delivered, she reflected on the urgent realities facing women and girls in the Horn of Africa, together with the critical need for access to justice. We reiterate our call on Member States and the international community to: • Strengthen accountability for violations against women and girls; • Hold perpetrators and chains of command responsible with no exceptions; • Invest in women-led organizations and feminist legal networks; and • Support gender-responsive justice systems that center survivors. Ultimately, sustainable peace cannot exist where violations go unpunished. In Al-Gezira State, #Sudan, the impact of the war has gone far beyond immediate violence. After the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took control of the state, civilians were subjected to a wide range of violations, including systematic sexual violence against women and girls. These violations have left deep and lasting marks on everyday life, and on girls’ ability to remain in school. In this new documentary by SIHA Network, produced in collaboration with Ayin Network, “The Henna Tree” examines the impact of the war on girls’ education, and what it means to hold on to learning in a context shaped by insecurity, deteriorating school conditions, and the economic, psychological, and social pressures imposed by war. Drawing on the lived experiences of families and girls from Al-Gezira, the documentary explores the return to education as part of a broader process of recovery, and reflects on the barriers that continue to stand in the way of many girls returning to school.
