This bill would update Medicare payments by basing the conversion factor on the Medicare Economic Index (MEI), ensuring physicians are fairly compensated for their work & patients continue receiving high-quality care. The current system is unsustainable—this reform is a necessary step toward stability for both providers & patients. Abraham Flexner provided a report on the status of American and Canadian medical schools that led to standardization of medical education and dramatically advanced the field. The field of Nurse Practitioners has been overtaken by those motivated purely by profit who have preyed on unsuspecting nurses looking to advance their careers. Far too many graduates have no experience and are ill prepared for the critical function that midlevels perform in our medical systems. This @BeckersHR article outlines the key problems facing nursing education and I encourage everyone to read and better understand the issue. There is a significant need for physician assistants and nurse practitioners alike given the increased demand for healthcare in the United States, but that need cannot be used as justification to provide subpar education that puts patients at risk.
