Let’s summarize where we are after a 40+ day Democrat shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. 1) ICE and CBP are funded, thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts and the foresight of President Trump and Republicans in Congress. 2) After holding DHS and the American people hostage for over 40 days, Dems got ZERO restrictions that would prevent ICE and CBP agents from doing their jobs safely. 3) Due to Dem obstruction of the appropriations process, ICE and CBP will get even more funding through budget reconciliation. 4) Dems have once again established themselves as the “Open Borders, Defund the Police” party heading into an election. 5) Dem leadership has proven once again they can’t be trusted to make a deal. Which begs the question if you’re a Dem senator or one of their left-wing supporters: What was this really all about?

Sec Duffy - you have to cut off the head of the snake. Your efforts focused on drivers is but a pebble in the ocean. Unless/until you ban foreign ownership of the carriers hiring illegals to drive, none of your driver-focused efforts will help. You have to stop foreign operators owning/running US trucking companies. Non US citizens SHOULD NOT have operating authority. Companies owned and operated in the US by US citizens aren’t the ones hiring these drivers. It’s foreign - Eastern European and African - owned carriers hiring these drivers - many tied to organized crime. These are the same carriers behind MANY BILLIONS in fraud and theft. Sorry you have to deal with so many of those issues. Seriously, one of my earliest jobs in the industry was driving a 24’ straight truck for an expeditor. After a dozen runs, I knew I wasn’t up for this gig. However, might I suggest working with better brokers. We don’t treat our carriers this way. That said. Please be mindful many of the things brokers do are in reaction to the demands of their shipper customers. We all need one another. Let’s work to fix it.

I woke up out of a dead sleep witb these thoughts. Hang the keys up bro! You had a good ride. There's no humanity left in trucking. It used to be about the guy that had to go through all the stress for what that load paid. Now, it's about the stress that same guy has to go through to make ends meet while getting paid pennies on the dollar. Its watching brokerage firms become multi billion dollar firms while you struggle to pay off a $1500 repair bill. It's watching truckstop after truckstop pop up price gouging the trucker from the fuel pumps to $10 a gallon windshield washer fluid while offering you a food choice of a roller dog, subway, or McDonald's. It's having some young cocky employee of a broker calling you at 2am to get your location waking you up from a dead sleep and then mocking you because you're crabby. It's being harassed by the DOT at scales because you hit one of that states nuclear potholes and it knocked a marker light out. Its sharing the roads with third world people who have no business driving a bicycle let alone a semi and they have zero value for human life. Its having to deal with people in the public who treat us as an inconvenience rather than a necessity and cut us off just to hit their exit because they feel their time matters more. It's having to use truckstop showers that still have pubes on the floor from the previous guest. It's having to deal with regulations that were made up by a pencil pushing punk bureaucrat who tells me that im not safe to work more than 14 hours a day because he's unable to. It's being treated like a child because you have allowed children into an adult profession and they ruin it for the adults and rather than punish the children who make mistakes, you punish the adults who know better. It's wanting to park for the night closer to your destination but you don't risk it because you know the parking will be non existent. It's being told you have lane restrictions in certain states because those states think your time don't matter. It's watching your health deteriorate over time because of the nature of your profession. It's having to miss weddings, funerals, birthdays, and every important life event because you already committed to a couple weeks worth of loads. It's having to make do in a bucket or garbage can at a shipper/receiver because they've held you up for hiurs and offer no restroom facilities. It's waiting 12 1/2 hours to get loaded than run the load through the night straight through to deliver the load on time only for the receiver make you wait an additional 8 1/2 hours to unload you and then be told "we'll give you $340 for your time." (I lost a load because of that) It's breaking down and having roadside price gouging you because they know you have no other choice. It's being held up at shippers/receivers because no English speaking truck drivers can't understand basic instructions or they park in everyone's way because they have no common courtesy. It's watching non English speaking truck drivers park at fuel pumps and go in and take a shower. It's dodging bags of human feces in parking lots because the 3rd world is too lazy to bring that bag to a garbage can. I could go on and on but ladies and gentlemen this is a pretty good crash course of what we deal with out here to bring you your conveniences. The trucking industry, much like this country is no more. Greed and corruption is destroying this country and the trucking industry from within. It's time to take our country back or lose it forever. ~written by The Disrespected Trucker ~

Few thoughts here… first I never understood this argument, and have always felt people who make it have never actually been in the market, on the floor, and in the action. Most load boards and data points are “all-in” rates - especially from the carrier side. 98+% of negotiations with a carrier are “all-in.” They know their fuel costs at the time of negotiations. Hopefully they’re covering their nut. The back and forth is rarely LH plus FSC. It’s nearly always - I can pay “x” dollars and carrier nearly always replies I need “y” dollars and they typically settle for “z.” Additionally, carriers are negotiating “real time” with the brokers. Over the last couple of weeks, fuel has moved 15-30 cents a gallon during a week, yet FSC’s are set once a week at the beginning of the week. FSC usually lags the market. If a broker is billing LH and FSC, that’s because they’ve negotiated with the shipper that way and it’s highly likely 95+% of the time, the shipper sets the FSC. So say it’s a 600 mile run at $2.35 a mile so $1410 for linehaul. Then it’s $0.50 a mile for fuel. The broker collects $1710 total for the load. Let’s keep the math simple and say the broker wants a 15% margin. He’s likely going to try to sell the load for about $1450-$1460. It’s very rare negotiations go different from this. Flat rate to flat rate. So did the broker pass on FSC in this scenario? Sure feels like it to me.

If you are a broker, and billing shippers for FSC and not passing it along to the carrier rightfully, two things: 1.) That’s your business and I’m sure that’s the argument. But….. 2.) We got beef….this ain’t the time to be shafting the very carriers that are moving this country forward.
FreightWaves@FreightWaves

If you’ve got 5 trucks, you’re paying full price at the pump while the big players use massive buying power to skip the line. Even worse? Brokers are billing shippers for fuel surcharges but aren't passing those margins down to the spot market. The squeeze is real. Full episode: vist.ly/4v4nt

Again, I think it is reckless to say “all the illegals work for brokers.” Where is the data to support that? Like I asked in my first reply, do you have data that supports your assertion? Or data to back up the statement that brokers are the ones hiring illegals involved in every accident? If you do, please share. If you don’t, maybe exercise a little more discretion against these broad sweeping statements. Where we agree is there is a practice of cheapest and fastest with little regard to safety, ethics or integrity. Find the lowest price get a 25% rip in markup and move on. Where we disagree is I believe this practice is the exception, not the rule. Where we also agree is our industry has to do everything we can to remove not only every illegal and non-ELP driver from the roads - IMMEDIATELY - but we also have to join together to remove every non US citizen in Uzbekistan, Pakistan (name it) who owns and operates a trucking business. Being in this industry 42 years and with our company almost 40, I’ve lived the evolution of the brokerage industry. And with all this experience the one thing I struggle with the most is how much truckers claim to despise brokers. The ATA statistics say that 91.5% of carriers registered with FMCSA have 10 trucks or fewer. With your experience and mine, we both know in many instances that’s probably an O/O who added trucks a little at a time and went from O/O to trucking company. Without brokers, where is he (or she) going to get his freight? At the very least, without brokers, where is he getting the backhaul? Brokers are the lifeline to the small operator. I personally know 15-20 carriers we use regularly that would be devastated - maybe bankrupt - without the consistent volume and consistent cashflow our operation provides theirs. What’s the old saw and oft repeated saying, “be careful what you wish for?”

I appreciate your comments. Our take is not that all brokers are bad it's just that all the illegals work for the brokers. An ecosystem now exists that thrives off willful blindness to the hazards being introduced to our roadways. You're not doing that. Fine. However, many of your peers are recklessly negligent and have put your fellow Americans in harm's way and would have completely destroyed the culture of our industry had Trump not intervened. They must be accountable.

Brokers think they should have immunity even when they hire chameleon carriers whose ownership cannot even be properly identified for proper litigation. Leaving innocent families without proper recourse. The brokers created the ecosystem that caused this crash! The brokers should pay the damages! Accountability drives safety! Not Immunity! No immunity for profiteers who willfully neglect proper carrier safety vetting for more profit!

Savar Muradov claims he did not 'own' Hope Trans at the time of the fatal accident in Terrell, Texas, last summer. Per documents submitted to the court, Hope Trans was sold in October 2024. Muradov wishes the court to dismiss the case. "This day, October 18, 224" This is absolutely absurd.

There are hundreds of truckloads stolen every single week by truckers that use fake credentials to perpetrate the crime. It’s becoming a multibillion dollar business, coordinated by overseas organized crime syndicates working with undocumented truck drivers in the US. Often, these drivers come from the same countries that are funding and perpetuating these crimes. Unfortunately, local police departments don’t consider these crimes their focus and due to low levels of funding, the federal government isn’t able to investigate these crimes. The only way to lock it down is to start with much higher levels of screening and compliance. The trucking industry is facing a safety and security crisis because we don’t know who is actually driving the trucks.
Bryan Johnson@bryan_johnson

Someone stole $630,000 worth of Blueprint creatine in an elaborate heist. The driver used a false ID to pick up the units from our factory, then turned off the tracker and stopped responding to calls. The stolen creatine monohydrate was precision-dosed and third-party tested for purity and heavy metals. 15,918 units of pure grade A powder. If anyone has information, lmk. Even if we don't recover the creatine, I'd at least like to know this person's health stats. Here’s a rendering of what we suspect the perp might look like.

This trucking company reported 9,869,643 miles last year. They also report they have 12 trucks. That's 822,470 miles per truck. At 822,470 miles, each truck would need to average: > 2,253 miles per day > 93 miles per hour for 24 hours straight > every day for an entire year Which is obviously... IMPOSSIBLE.

Says someone who has absolutely no clue. Lives and our national security are at risk every day one of these non-domicile, illegals gets behind the wheel of 80,000 pounds going 65 MPH. What kind of destruction could one of these trucks filled with flammable liquids do to a crowd of people? Or a crowded rush hour highway? Many of these drivers are of Eastern Europe or African decent driving for companies operating from the same. And many of them tied to organized crime. Billions and billions of dollars are lost because of these actors. Look around your home. Everything in it - everything in your fridge - everything used to build that home - all of it - was on a truck. Theft and loss for the companies shipping on those trucks will pass these increased costs onto all of us. And then, if that’s not enough, these illegal operators are literally killing hundreds of people - critically injuring many more - and destroying lives. And I haven’t even touched upon how this is destroying legal, US citizen owned small family and owner operators trucking businesses - middle America - Johnny Lunchpail kind of folks. But yea, it’s all about “Orange Man Bad.”
